Globe Lap Participation Terms

What Globe Lap is

Globe Lap is a free, non-commercial global relay running event: runners all over the world each cover their own lap around the planet on the same day, with waves starting at 9:00 in the morning local time so a front sweeps westward around the world. These terms cover taking part in Globe Lap through the app and through the website at globelap.com. By using either one, you accept these terms.

Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to take part: to be tracked during an event, to submit a run, or to send us feedback. If you are under 16, you can still open the app and watch as a spectator, but you cannot take part.

Participation is anonymous by default. You do not need to create an account or give us your name to join a run.

How taking part works

Each main event runs as a set of waves, one per timezone, each starting at 9:00 local time. Once your wave starts, there are hourly cutoffs to keep going, and any distance you cover that passes our checks adds to a live global tally that everyone can see. Alongside the main event, there are lighter weekly practice runs on the same wave pattern. The app is the source of truth for the exact schedule, cutoffs, and how a given event works: see it there for full detail.

Acceptable use and fair play

Globe Lap only works if people take part honestly. When you use the app or the website, you agree to:

• Cover the distance yourself, honestly, during your own run.
• Never fake, spoof, or manipulate your location.
• Never use automation, scripts, bots, or other tools to simulate movement or otherwise generate runs you did not actually do.
• Never interfere with the event, its systems, or other participants, for example by attempting to disrupt tracking, the tally, or the leaderboard.
• Keep your display name and any feedback you send us free of abuse, harassment, or content meant to disrupt or offend other participants.

Anti-cheat and bans

To keep the race fair, we run automated checks, and sometimes manual ones, on runs as they come in. Depending on what a check finds, we may, at our reasonable discretion:

• Flag a run for review.
• Leave a run's distance out of the global tally.
• End a run early.
• Ban a device from taking part, if we find cheating or abusive behavior.

If you think a fair-play decision about your run is wrong, you can contest it by contacting us at run@globelap.com, and a person will review it.

Safety and assumption of risk

Globe Lap is real physical activity, often outdoors and on public routes, roads, and paths. You take part at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety: for choosing a safe route, for staying aware of your surroundings, and for following local laws and traffic rules wherever you are. If you are unsure whether you are fit for this kind of activity, please consider your health and talk to a doctor first. To the extent the law allows, Valsted Solutions OÜ is not liable for injury, loss, or damage arising from taking part in Globe Lap.

The service is provided as-is

Globe Lap is free to use. We do our best to keep the app and the website running smoothly, including on race day, but we do not guarantee they will always be available, on time, or error-free. To the extent the law allows, we provide the service as-is, without warranties, and our liability to you is limited accordingly.

How we collect, use, and protect your data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will let you know in the app. Continuing to take part in Globe Lap after a change means you accept the updated terms.
